The Michigan Wheat Program says they’re committed to grower research as they prepare for reduced funding in the year ahead.
Executive Director Jody Pollock-Newsom tells Brownfield an expected 40 percent cut in the state’s wheat production and lower commodity prices are causing them to trim checkoff programing. “We all know that budgets get tighter. We’re all trying to figure out what we can do to do more with less, but to keep that focus on yield and quality to make sure our growers are competitive.”
Pollock-Newsom says the Michigan Wheat Program for the first time is hosting plot tours and field days across the state during June to showcase current research projects on different varieties as well as management systems.
