Hired farm workers down 6 percent in Northern Plains region

A USDA-NASS report on farm labor in the Northern Plains Region, which includes Nebraska, Kansas and the Dakotas, shows the number of hired workers on farms and ranches in April of this year was down six percent from April 2016.
The number of farm workers in the four states totaled 32,000.
Farm operators in the region paid their hired workers an average wage of just over 14 dollars per hour this year, up slightly from a last year.
