The clock is ticking on Mexico which has until June 5th to comply with U.S. trade laws before sugar duties are imposed.
Phillip Hayes with the American Sugar Alliance tells Brownfield this is not a trade negation, Mexico broke the law. “Mexico was found guilty of dumping subsidized sugar into the U.S. market, costing our producers $4 billion since 2013, driving many people out of their work, people have lost jobs, factories have closed.”
He says Mexico was found guilty in 2015 but has not maintained agreements that were reached between the two countries after their settlement.
