Heavy frosts at the beginning of last week were followed by several days of more normal weather for Michigan farmers. The USDA says planting progress continues to remain behind last year and the five year average for corn and soybeans, but surged ahead for sugarbeets.
The winter wheat condition improved seven points to 70 percent good to excellent, 59 percent of the crop is jointed, slightly behind last year.
The USDA says 30 percent of corn is planted, two percent is emerged.
