An extension corn specialist says there are still a lot of questions to be answered about the April planted corn.
Purdue University’s Bob Nielsen says the water is just now getting off of the fields. “Some of these fields have a pretty thick crust at the surface which is impeding emergence,” he says. “And coupled with all that – it’s approaching 3 weeks underwater.”
He tells Brownfield this week’s forecast in the Eastern Corn Belt will likely seal the fate of corn planted ahead of the recent cool, wet pattern.
