A farmer in west-central Minnesota says he’s been dodging weather challenges all spring.
Noah Hultgren of Raymond recently finished planting sugar beets and has half his corn acres in the ground.
“We’d be planting for a day, then we’d get a cold rain or (even) snow. Ideally, it wasn’t great to have that cold rain and snow on the seed that was already in the ground. We’re hoping we didn’t take the top end off those yields.”
Hultgren, who farms with his brother, started planting in mid-April and says the newly-emerged sugar beets have good stands.
