High milk production levels led to higher dairy product production numbers in March.
The USDA says total cheese production was 1.062 billion pounds, up 12.7% on the month and 3.3% on the year, including a 2.2% year to year rise in Italian type cheeses to 468.507 million pounds and a 3.5% increase for American to 415.543 million pounds.
Butter production was 176 million pounds, 9% more than in February and up 0.3% from last year.
