A university specialist says the wet spring can lead to more spoilage in grain bins. Charles Hurburgh with Iowa State says stored grain needs to be inspected frequently during this high-risk year. “Storage life, even in dried corn, is dependent on temperature and humidity so the humidities are high and the temperatures are high. We’re losing storage life no matter what we’ve done.”
Hurburgh says monitoring temperatures, humidity, and dewpoints are the key to keeping grain in good condition.
