A bigger herd and increased milk production pressured dairy income last year.
The USDA says cash receipts for milk marketings in 2016 were $34.543 billion, down 3.3% from 2015, while marketings were up 1.8% at 211.4 billion pounds.
Milk averaged $16.34 per hundredweight, down 5% on the year.
Total production was up 1.8% at 212 billion, the per cow average jumped 378 pounds to 22,774, and the U.S.
