Lingering cool and damp conditions have corn planting in Minnesota way off last year’s pace.
The latest USDA crop progress report says just six percent of the intended acreage has been planted, 34 percent behind 2016’s 40 percent.
This spring has been closer to the five year average of 17 percent, however.
The planting of small grains edged up last week, but remains well behind normal with spring wheat at 14 percent complete, oats at 29 percent, and barley eight percent done.
