The USDA says March milk production in the top 23 states was 17.524 billion pounds, up 1.8% on the year.
The average production per cow was a new monthly record at 2,012 pounds, 18 above last March, and the herd was up 72,000 head from a year ago at 8.709 million. U.S. milk production during the first quarter of 2017 was up 1% from the same period in 2016 at 53.540 million pounds.
