Winter made a brief return to South Dakota this past week with snow, sleet, and freezing rain in parts of central and eastern South Dakota, but small grain planting progressed in spite of that. Topsoil moisture is 84 percent adequate to surplus. Winter wheat is 53 percent good to excellent. More than half the spring wheat’s planted, which is a little behind last year, but ahead of normal. Oats planting is almost half done. Hay supplies are 79 percent adequate to surplus and stock water is 86 percent adequate to surplus.
