Generally cool weather will persist into next week in California and the Northwest, while a cooling trend will take place across the nation’s northern tier. Warm weather will prevail in other areas of the U.S. Meanwhile, a rather active weather pattern will lead to scattered showers in all areas of the country, except the Southwest and portions of the lower Southeast. Five-day rainfall totals could reach 1 to 3 inches across the eastern Plains and the upper Midwest, while amounts should generally total less than an inch on the High Plains and throughout the East.
