The USDA has reduced its 2017 U.S. milk production estimate, expecting lower per cow production to cancel out a bigger herd. The new estimate of 217.3 billion pounds was down 200 million on the month, but would still be up 4.9 billion pounds from 2016, if realized.
Price projections for all types of milk and most types of dairy products were also down from March because of heavy international competition. All milk is now projected at $17.40 to $17.90 per hundredweight with Class III at $16.10 to $16.60 and Class IV at $14.30 to $14.90.
