Wet soils prohibit early planting in Ohio

Soil conditions have been too wet for planting and field work throughout the Buckeye State.
The USDA says there was one day suitable for field work during the last week of March though some farmers were able to get out for spring tillage, burndown work, and anhydrous applications. Soil temperatures remain higher than normal because of the mild winter.
More than 80 percent of Ohio winter wheat is rated in good to excellent condition, and around five percent of Ohio’s oat crop has been planted.
