South Dakota farmers are planning a record number of soybean acres this year. The USDA says 5.4 million acres of soybeans that farmers intend to plant is up 4% from 2016. Meanwhile 5.4 million acres of corn is down 4% from last year. Wheat acreage is really down; 900,000 acres of winter wheat is 24 percent less than last year. 940,000 of spring wheat is down 13 percent, and 4,000 of durum wheat is 60 percent below what was planted last year.
