The USDA says Minnesota farmers intend to plant nearly 10 percent more soybeans this year.
Prospective planting estimates released Friday by the Department’s National Ag Statistics Service predict a nine percent increase in soybean acreage, totaling 8.25 million acres statewide.
If realized, soybean acreage would surpass corn, forecast at 8 million acres.
Minnesota Soybean Growers Association CEO Tom Slunecka says the dramatic shift towards more soybeans is not a surprise.
