Iowa farmers intend to plant seven percent more soybean acres and four percent fewer corn acres in 2017.
Friday’s prospective plantings report put soybean acres at 10.1 million. If realized, it would be the largest soybean planted acreage since 2006.
Corn acreage is estimated at 13.3 million, which would be the lowest corn planted acreage since 2008.
Iowa farmers also intend to plant 135-thousand acres of oats, up 15-thousand from last year.
