An ag machinery consultant says the newer Tier 4 diesel engines must be maintained on a regular basis. Mark Goettig with AGCO says the newer engines run cooler and use less fuel, but have computers and more parts. He tells Brownfield operators should not ignore the warning lights and gauges. “If this tractor is sending up a warning, it’s telling you there’s something wrong and it’s a good idea to stay on top of it right now rather than later because it could disable the tractor if you go too far into pushing that button to keep you going.”
Goettig says ignoring signs of trouble will likely cost more than a fuel pump or a couple of injectors.
