Michigan cherry growers have voted to continue the Michigan Cherry Promotion and Development program.
Established in 1972, growers must vote every five years to renew the program. Three-quarters of votes cast, representing nearly 90 percent of production, approved the referendum.
Producers are currently assessed $10 per ton of sweet or tart cherries and $5 per ton of cherries sold for juice which is used to create greater marketing opportunities for Michigan cherries.
