A dairy farmer from Ireland says American milk production is very different from what he’s used to.
David Hyland is a dairy farmer from Ireland and tells Brownfield that unlike many dairy farms here, his cows are outdoors 10 months of the year and never get any other feed than grass. “We don’t grow (row) crops. We don’t get the same yield of corn off it, so you get one good crop every five years, so it wouldn’t be feasible to do that, so that’s why we stick with grass.”
Hyland is impressed with the dairies he has seen on his trip to Wisconsin but says there are drawbacks.
