The main item of business in cattle country on Monday is the distribution of this week’s showlists. Cattle traded steady to 2.00 higher last week with the most advance in the North. Although the cattle inventory proved a bit more expensive for packers last week, the surge in the beef carcass value from Friday to Friday was $11.76 for choice, and $6.94 for select and that more than offset the difference. Gross packer margins are starting the week at the highest level since last November.
