The president of the National Farmers Union says the dairy safety net in the next Farm Bill needs a significant infusion of money.
Roger Johnson says the current Dairy Margin Protection Program (MPP) baseline is severely lacking.
“It’s a big industry in terms of the footprint it has in overall agriculture, and it’s going to clearly take a billion dollars or more to stand up some sort of a fix for the dairy program.”
He suggests MPP could look similar to what was originally proposed in the last Farm Bill.
