Trade was slow in much of cattle country on Thursday afternoon following fairly active business in Nebraska and Iowa through the morning. Most dressed business took place at $200.00, $4.00 higher than last week’s weighted average basis Nebraska. A few lives sales in the North from 126.00 to 127.00. While some cleanup action is possible on Friday, the guess is business is essentially done for the week in both the North and the South. The cattle slaughter was estimated by USDA at 115,000 head, 1,000 more than last week, and 5,000 greater than last year.
