An Ohio-based crop consultant says higher pH levels in rain water may be contributing to nutrient loss in crop fields. Joe Nester with Nester Ag says recent issues with water quality in the Western Lake Erie Basin can be tied to higher pH levels in rainwater.
“We’re dealing with a more soluble form of phosphorous than we did ten and fifteen years ago, and that would be due to the big change in the pH of our rain fall,” says Nester.
