Cover crops continue to grow in popularity across the Midwest, mostly for erosion control, weed suppression, nitrate loss reduction, and the soil health benefits they provide. Many livestock producers, however, are also using cover crops as an excellent source of spring feeding. At the recent Iowa Soybean Association Research Conference, we talked with two farmers from southern Iowa who have been utilizing cover crops as a tool in their cattle operations for several years–Randy Miller of Lacona and Jeff Jorgenson of Sidney.
