Growing interest in cover crops in Nebraska

If the turnout for this week’s Nebraska Cover Crop Conference is any indication, the interest in cover crops in Nebraska is rapidly growing.
More than 300 people attended this year’s conference at the University of Nebraska Research and Extension Center near Mead. That’s 100 more than were at last year’s inaugural conference.
Nathan Mueller, Nebraska Extension Educator for Dodge and Washington counties, helped coordinate the event. We visited with Mueller about the general outlook for cover crops in Nebraska and the idea of using earlier maturing corn and soybean varieties to allow more time for cover crop planting in the fall.
