Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton says it’s critically important property tax relief is given to farmers after a decade of imposition.
He tells Brownfield agricultural landowners have seen a tax increase of 114 percent since 2007.
“It’s the most unfair tax we have because you have to pay it whether or not you’re a farmer producing a profit, (or) whether you have a job. It’s a very onerous tax.”
Dayton says while school bond referendums have led to valuable improvements for many districts, it frequently puts farmers in a difficult position.
