The USDA has delayed the implementation of the Organic Livestock and Poultry Practices final rule by 60 days, to May 19th, 2017. The Trump administration issued orders January 20th to allow it to review pending rules throughout federal agencies.
The rule, finalized in the waning days of the Obama administration, is supported by organic groups but criticized by conventional livestock production groups as being overreaching and driven by consumer preferences for animal welfare instead of expert consensus.
