The annual cattle inventory report released Tuesday afternoon implied a January 1 feeder cattle supply of 26.5 million head, 2.2 percent greater than last year. Placement activity seems set to accelerate over the next quarter or so. The total cattle inventory on January 1 was 93.8 million head. This is 2 percent more than January 1 2016.
There is very little action in the cash cattle trade so far on Wednesday with no bids reported.
