Six counties receive special recognition from Indiana Farm Bureau

Six county Farm Bureaus were honored for activities that had a significant impact on their communities or on Farm Bureau’s political influence and clout.

2012 was the first year of the new Indiana Farm Bureau county recognition program, and a total of 4,058 activities and events took place across the state with 100 percent of Indiana counties participating.

The six county Farm Bureaus receiving special recognition were Boone, influential organization; Clinton, young farmers and youth; Franklin, issue engagement; Monroe, public relations and education; Vanderburgh, influential organization; and Whitley, membership outreach.

Boone County was selected as Impact Award recipient in the influential organization category for the ag roundtable discussions it holds with elected officials.

Clinton County was selected as the 2012 Impact Award recipient in the young farmers and youth category for its tractor simulator. More than 450 people drove the simulator during the county fair.

Franklin County’s Impact Award recognized its efforts in issue engagement that resulted in the elimination of the library capital projects tax, saving taxpayers in six townships a combined $58,000.

Monroe County received a 2012 Impact Award in the public relations and education category for its participation in the Monroe County Children’s Farm Festival.

Vanderburgh County also received an Impact Award in the influential organization category for its successful 2 ½-year effort to defeat a city-county consolidation effort.

Whitley County received the Impact Award in the membership outreach category as a result of a concentrated membership effort that included the creation of a detailed membership plan.
