For Janell Boruff-Shanahan, working for Indiana Farm Bureau is actually her second career.

“I have taught kindergarten, third grade and special education grades kindergarten through 5,” she said, adding that she was also a reading coach for grades K-3.

Although she’s worked for INFB only since November, she is very familiar with the organization because her husband, Brian Shanahan, has worked for Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance as a senior financial analyst for more than 30 years.

“When I decided to leave education, it only seemed natural that I look at Indiana Farm Bureau for my next career,” she said. “I wanted to work for a non-profit, so when this job became available it seemed like a perfect fit for me to join a company that has been so good to my family.”

In her new position, she assists the public policy team, including helping to organize the trip that INFB sponsors every March so that volunteer leaders can lobby Indiana’s congressional delegation on issues of importance to Farm Bureau.

“I am available to our members to help relay information from the public policy team and to offer members help as they need it,” she explained. “I enjoy meeting all of our members and hearing their stories. I also enjoy working with so many forward-thinking people who tirelessly advocate for our farming families. It is their passion to continually improve the farming industry, and I really value being a part of that.”

Boruff-Shanahan is a graduate of Indiana State University, where she graduated with a double major in elementary and special education.

She and Brian have two sons – Heath and Evan – and her hobbies include traveling, golf, ballroom dancing, reading and exercising.
