Thinking ahead and planning for what could impact farmers is the focus of Indiana Farm Bureau’s upcoming Critical Issues Summit. The event will be held 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21 at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds, 1900 E. Main St. in Danville.
The Critical Issues Summit was created in 2025 to bring people together to consider the future of farming and foster conversation about issues facing agriculture today.
“It was new programming to help members learn about upcoming issues – topics that may impact their operations in the future,” said Katie Nelson, INFB’s executive director of public policy. “I want to educate members proactively on policy issues that we think will be impacting agriculture moving forward.”
This year’s keynote speaker is American Farm Bureau Foundation President Zippy Duvall.
“I'm excited for Zippy to come and discuss issues impacting agriculture and operations today. We are excited to welcome him back to the Hoosier State and interact directly with our members,” Nelson said.
Other topics include Make America Healthy Again (MAHA), nuclear energy, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) chemicals, local government finance reform and global market forces impacting the farmer's bottom line.
“MAHA continues to be a hot topic, and we think that it will be discussed again during the next legislation session,” said Nelson. “Nuclear energy was a popular breakout session during Ag Gathering. The room was filled so we decided to bring that back and continue the conversation. Then we will talk about the state budget, property taxes and what the next session looks like with Rep. Jeffrey Thompson (R, IN-28) and Rep. Craig Snow (R, IN-22) speaking. PFAS is a really complicated topic, and we want our members to learn more about it so they can help us more effectively advocate for good policy.”
The cost is $25 for INFB members and $50 for nonmembers. Anyone with an interest in learning more about agriculture’s next big issues is encouraged to attend. For more information or to register, visit infb.org/events.
