Registration is now open for the Indiana Farm Bureau Agricultural Land Use & Zoning School on Thursday, March 5, 2026. The virtual seminar will be conducted from 9 a.m. to noon ET. The seminar is free of charge for INFB members, courtesy of the Indiana Agricultural Law Foundation. Cost to non-members is $50 registration fee. Interested individuals must register by Tuesday, March 3.
“Agriculture remains the backbone of our state, but land use is no longer just about farming – it’s about navigating a complex web of competing interests,” said INAgLaw Director John Shoup. “This year’s program is designed for landowners and stakeholders standing at this crossroads, or who may face challenges in the future. Whether you are facing direct pressure from developers, concerned about shifting property dynamics in your county, or looking to understand the latest legislative issues regarding land rights, this program will help provide clarity.”
This event offers valuable insights into policy updates, regulatory challenges, and legal considerations for landowners and those involved in agricultural land use, with potential CLE credit hours for attorneys who attend.
The program will feature expert speakers addressing key legal and policy topics related to agricultural land use, including INFB Executive Director of Public Policy Katie Nelson providing a legislative update and attorney Alan Townsend from Bose McKinney discussing eminent domain. Purdue University’s Roberto Gallardo, Ph.D., and Indraneel Kumar, Ph.D., AICP, will present an analysis of Indiana's current and future infrastructure needs, with an emphasis on how these needs affect the agricultural and rural sectors.
Brianna Schroeder of Janzen Schroeder Law will address one of the biggest challenges seen in Indiana and the Midwest – increasing competition for land and resources, especially in rural areas. Schroeder said this competition is seen in higher numbers as local boards consider land use issues such as data centers, renewable energy, and digesters.
