The Hoosier Farmer

Della Menchhofer is the new district education and outreach coordinator for District 10. In this position, she represents members in Clark, Dearborn, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, Switzerland and Washington counties on Indiana Farm Bureau’s Women’s Leadership Committee.

Menchhofer’s service in INFB began with her husband in the 1980s when they served as the District 10 Young Farmers and Ag Professionals representatives. She also has served in Ripley County Farm Bureau on the board and as county education and outreach coordinator, through Ag in the Classroom, and was the District 10 secretary/treasurer prior to her new role. Menchhofer participated in the Farm Bureau Agricultural/Cultural Exchange Trip to Europe in 1991.

Menchhofer earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in family and consumer sciences education from Indiana State University. She worked as an extension educator for Purdue Extension Service for 12 years and taught in public school for six years.

When she was 52, Menchhofer went to The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences and became a registered nurse. She worked at a rural hospital as a medical/surgical floor nurse for 10 years before retiring. She serves as a substitute nurse at her local school when needed.

In the community, Menchhofer is a member of the Osgood Lion’s Club and Tanglewood Baptist Church. She has been on 20 medical missionary trips to the Amazon Basin of Brazil. In her free time, Menchhofer’s hobbies are shopping, scrapbooking, sewing and spending time with her granddaughters. She also enjoys traveling and has visited all 50 states.

Menchhofer resides in Holton with her husband, Owen, a retired Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance agent for 28 years. The family has deep roots in Ripley County agriculture going back six generations. They own and manage 500 acres of their crop land. The couple have two sons, Matthew and Jacob (Erin), and three granddaughters – Ava, Ella and Willow.
