Clean Sweep program offers free or low-cost pesticide disposal

Jun 24, 2025, 09:10 by Kathleen M. Dutro

The Clean Sweep Pesticide Disposal Program, which is designed to collect and dispose of suspended, canceled, banned, unusable, opened, unopened or unwanted pesticides, is being sponsored in August by the Office of Indiana State Chemist at several sites around the state.

Herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides, fungicides and miticides and other pest control products can be disposed of as part of this program.

Disposal is free of charge up to 250 pounds per participant. Over 250 pounds there will be a charge of $3 per pound.

Farms and individual members of the public are eligible, as are public and private schools, golf courses, nurseries, ag dealers, cities, towns, municipalities and county units of government.

All the disposal sites are open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time. The locations are:

  • Aug. 12 – LaPorte County Pinney Purdue Ag Center, 11402 S. County Line Road, Wanatah, Indiana 46390.
  • Aug. 13 – Vigo County Keystone Cooperative, 2500 S. 13th St., Terre Haute, Indiana 47802.
  • Aug. 14 – Decatur County Kova Fertilizer, 1330 N. Anderson St., Greensburg, Indiana 47240.
  • Aug. 19 – Clark County Solid Waste District, 112 Industrial Way, Charlestown, Indiana 47111.
  • Aug. 20 – Whitley County Ag Plus, 5501 S. State Road 9, Columbia City, Indiana 46725.
  • Aug. 21 – Hendricks County Fairgrounds, 1900 E. Main St., Danville, Indiana 46122.

To participate, complete the form found here. Fax or e-mail the completed form to Mitch Trimble, 765-494-4331 or cleansweep@groups.edu.edu, no later than Friday, Aug. 8. Questions may be directed to Trimble at 765-494-7142.

The final step is to bring your containers, which must be leak-free and safe to transport, to the collection site. Do not mix materials.

Note that empty pesticide containers will not be accepted, nor will bulk containers not documented on the form.

More information is available here.
