Jefferson County Farm Bureau, Inc. hosted an event in honor of longtime Farm Bureau member and leader Mr. John Gray, at its Madison office on May 7. Gray recently made a substantial donation to Jefferson County Farm Bureau, ensuring a lasting legacy that will provide ag educational programs and scholarships. State and county Farm Bureau leadership, past and present, were on hand to honor Gray, along with several generations of his family.

(Indianapolis) – May 8, 2018 – Indiana Farm Bureau commemorated longtime Farm Bureau member, Mr. John Gray, last night at the Jefferson County Farm Bureau office in Madison, Indiana.

Gray made a sizable donation to Jefferson County Farm Bureau, Inc. His gift provides a lasting legacy, in the form of funds, to retire the debt on the county office, resulting in other funds becoming available for programs and scholarships.

Gray, accompanied by his wife, spoke at the event in front of family and Farm Bureau leadership, to share why he chose Farm Bureau for his donation and to discuss his wishes for how the funds could be allocated.

“I had several choices to make a showing in the community and I wanted something that would last,” said Gray. “We should be able to make some sizable scholarships and contributions to the youth in this community now. I want it spent for 4-H and FFA students.”

Gray added that his only regret was that he was not able to provide funds for youth programming earlier. He also thanked the local Farm Bureau board, of which he was a member for several years.

“I want to thank the county board. The board has been immaculate all these years. They have worked more hours, probably, than I have, especially with the youth.”

It’s no surprise that supporting the youth in the community is a priority for Gray. He was joined at the event by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even great-great-grandchildren.

Leaders from INFB and Jefferson County Farm Bureau shared stories of Gray and thanked him for his donation.

“My dad always told me you want to leave things better off than you found them,” said Randy Kron, INFB president. “Your generosity will definitely leave Jefferson County Farm Bureau and Indiana Farm Bureau a lot better off and we’re very thankful.”

Many mentioned admiring Gray’s farming ability, which included growing row crops, selling produce and raising dairy cattle.

Jefferson County Farm Bureau, led by Norbert Schafer, county president, unveiled a plaque that will hang in the entryway of their office to commemorate the donation.
