(Indianapolis) – October 1, 2020 –Indiana Farm Bureau Health Plans, a suite of affordable health care offerings sponsored by Indiana Farm Bureau, are now available. The health plans include Individual and Family Plans, Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans and dental/vision coverage.
As a new member benefit, INFB Health Plans will address a significant need in the Indiana agriculture community. For years, INFB members, made up of Hoosier farmers and agribusiness professionals, have expressed concerns over rising health care costs, especially for those who are sole proprietors.
To meet this growing member need, INFB worked with the Indiana General Assembly earlier this year to pass Senate Enrolled Act 184, allowing INFB to offer affordable health care options exclusively for its members.
“As I traveled the state the last few years and talked with farmers and agriculture professionals, I heard countless stories of members needing affordable, reliable health coverage,” said Randy Kron, INFB president. “Our members rallied together and with their support we’ve been able to create an additional option to the health care marketplace. INFB Health Plans will give many of our members the ability to continue to work in agriculture without having to worry about whether they’ll be able to pay for health coverage, or if the coverage they have is reliable.”
The INFB Health Plans include:
“These plans were built to provide significant cost savings for sole proprietors who do not have access to an employer’s health insurance plan,” said Patrick Williams, INFB Health Plans manager. “Our plans use reliable, known providers like UnitedHealthcare, VSP and Delta Dental so that our members can have peace of mind.”
On average, when compared to non-subsidized Affordable Care Act plans, INFB members will find that Individual Plans are 30-50% less and Family Plans are 50-70% less.
Coverage is statewide and plans are portable anywhere a member may live in Indiana, with no defined service area. Existing INFB members may apply for coverage at any time (starting Oct. 1, 2020) with coverage beginning as early as January 2021.
To be eligible for INFB Health Plans, an applicant must be a resident of Indiana, a member of Indiana Farm Bureau and meet the medical underwriting requirements. Interested individuals who are not currently members of INFB may apply for membership at any time but must wait 30 days from the start of their membership before applying for the Traditional Plans or dental and vision coverage. Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans do not require the 30-day waiting period.
