Matthew Payne, a native of southern Indiana, missed his chance to obtain the family farm. It was sold when he was just a small child. However, the love of agriculture has stayed with Matthew. Throughout his youth, he participated in his local high school FFA chapter and 4-H in both Floyd and Harrison counties. After graduation, he became a club leader and cattle superintendent.
He has been a member of the Floyd County Farm Bureau board of directors and has served as the Young Farmers & Ag Professionals representative since 2013. Matthew aspires to have a small registered Angus cow/calf herd and hay operation, but for now works alongside neighbors, friends and mentors on their farms in Floyd County.
Matthew obtained a degree in mortuary science and funeral service. He works as a funeral director and embalmer for the Newcomer Family Funeral Homes in New Albany, Indiana. He resides in Floyd County with his wife Rachel, their son, Benjamin, and their dog, Rusty. Matthew has loved his Farm Bureau journey so far and appreciates all the people he has met along the way who continue to offer guidance and support as he works to achieve his dream.
Matthew represents members in Clark, Dearborn, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, Switzerland and Washington counties.
