Adam Novotney recently joined Indiana Farm Bureau as the associate director for policy engagement. In this role, he handles many of INFB’s policy and regulatory priorities, including lobbying at the Indiana Statehouse.

Novotney will work on various tax and fiscal issues related to the state budget, according to Andy Tauer, INFB executive director of public policy. He also will work on issues involving rural health, public safety and emergency services.

Prior to joining INFB, Novotney spent most of his adult life in either government or politics. Since moving to Indianapolis, he has worked for JPMorgan followed by positions within Indianapolis city government and the state of Indiana.

He most recently spent five years at the Indiana Department of Health serving as chief financial officer and finance section chief for incident command during the COVID-19 response. In addition to preparing budgets, he also was responsible for crafting fiscal impacts on all potential legislation.

A resident of Indiana since 2008, Novotney is originally from Streator, Illinois, which is located in rural LaSalle County. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. Through Purdue University, he also is certified in Six Sigma process improvement methodology, a quality control program that offers organizations tools to improve their management capabilities.

Novotney describes himself as a “student of all things history,” and one of his main hobbies is reading. He also enjoys the outdoors, including hiking, fishing, camping, canoeing and boating.
