Sessions

Farm Succession Planning - The Basics

Cheryl Mitchell, Farm Legacy

This session will explore the relational and legacy-centered dimensions of estate and succession planning for family farms. It will offer a practical roadmap to help families start the planning process, with an emphasis on open communication, shared values, and building the right advisory team. The presentation will address family dynamics and the key conversations that lay the groundwork for long-term success. As a complement to the more technical legal sessions that follow, it focuses on the human side of farm succession.

Foundational Estate Planning for Farmers

Emma Wischmeier, Dobbs Legal Group, LLC

Join us for a practical discussion on estate planning basics for farmers. This session will cover key estate planning tools to help transition your land, operation, and family legacy to the next generation upon death. Topics will include Wills, Revocable Trusts, practical solutions to “strike the right balance,” and how you can start planning now. Designed specifically for farm families, this presentation will provide straightforward guidance on the foundational estate planning tools nearly every family should have in place, and common mistakes to avoid that can create challenges for families.

Hot Topics in Farm Estate Planning and Protecting the Farm from Third Parties

Dan Gordon, Partner, Gordon, Adler, Hayes & Washburn PC

Indiana farm families face numerous challenges that impact their operation and ability to convey it to the next generation. Tools to assist families engaged in estate/succession planning continue to evolve. Dan will highlight key considerations that may influence the planning process and use his years of experience representing farm families to address these important issues.
