(Indianapolis) – Oct. 26, 2023 – Indiana Farm Bureau Health Plans today announced it has nearly 3,900 enrolled plans at the end of the third quarter, which equates to more than 8,300 Hoosiers covered – an increase of over 25% from September 2022.
As of Sept. 30, 2023, enrollment in INFB Health Plans totaled 3,896 active plans. The breakdown of coverage for those plan holders included:
The fourth quarter of each year is open enrollment time for most employers and Affordable Care Act plans. Existing INFB members may apply for and receive coverage through INFB Health Plans anytime during the year, but Q4 is a good time for them to assess their health care options. On average, a plan offered through INFB Health Plans can provide savings of 50% to 70% for families when compared to ACA plans that aren’t subsidized by the federal government.
“As individuals and families evaluate their health benefits during this time, it’s important to understand plan offerings and any changes that are being made,” said Steve Allen, INFB Health Plans manager. “INFB Health Plans are an affordable option for those who are interested in reviewing their health care options for themselves and their dependents.”
Joni Steinkamp, of Vanderburgh County, and her husband have been Indiana Farm Bureau members for more than 30 years. The Steinkamps, along with their daughter who also is on their Traditional Health Plan, farm corn and soybeans.
“When INFB Health Plans became available, we switched over from our previous plan right away because the cost and deductible were better,” explained Steinkamp. “We are saving more than $100 a month, the deductible is less and the coverage is better.
“Plus, we never had dental and vision benefits before. Now, they are bundled together in our plan - it’s a win-win.”
Steinkamp also was pleased that she could keep her current doctors when she switched to her new plan. INFB Health Plans utilize the extensive UnitedHealth Care Choice Plus network for hospitals and doctors, giving customers many options to choose from.
Existing INFB members may apply for INFB Health Plans at any time, however, membership is required prior to applying for coverage, and individuals must be a member of INFB for at least 30 days to apply for a Traditional Health Plan or a dental/vision plan. Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans do not require the 30-day waiting period. Coverage is statewide and plans are portable anywhere a member may live in Indiana, with no defined service area.
