The Indiana Farm Bureau of today is preparing a present for the Indiana Farm Bureau of tomorrow: A time capsule that will be filled at this year’s convention and sealed until 2069.
County Farm Bureaus are invited to participate in this activity, which will be held during the convention’s Friday night program.
“During that program, we will ask all county presidents or other county designees to bring one county-specific item and place it in a time capsule that will be located on stage,” said Debra DeCourcy, APR, INFB’s chief marketing director.
Once all 92 counties have added their items, the time capsule will be sealed until December 2069.
When asked what might be a suitable contribution, DeCourcy urged counties to be creative but also to remember that space is limited.
“Our preference is for small or flat items or for things that are not much larger than the size of a softball,” she explained. She listed as examples items such as a photo of the county board, a newspaper clipping covering a county’s 100 Pounds for 100 Years contribution, a pen displaying with a county logo, or a piece of county letterhead with personal messages from county leadership.
“We will be providing you with more details on the time capsule in the near future, but I wanted to let you start thinking about what you want to contribute,” she said. “Use your imagination.”
