Direct cash cattle trade activity is fairly quiet after yesterday’s light trade. There are just a few scattered bids renewed at $109 live in the South and $179 to $183 dressed. Those are several dollars below current asking prices of $113+ live and $185+ dressed. Look for activity to improve over the balance of the week.
Boxed beef is steady to firm at midday on moderate demand
for moderate offerings. Choice is $.24 higher
at $216.73 and Select is $.29 higher at $193.
The Choice/Select spread is $23.73.
At the Bassett Livestock Auction in Nebraska, receipts are
down on the week. There was a limited comparable
offering from two weeks ago and 850-pound steers were $6 higher. The USDA says demand was good. Feeder supply included 67 percent steers and
90 percent of the offering was over 600 pounds.
Medium and Large 1 feeder steers 753 to 779 pounds brought $152.75 to
$163.25 and feeder steers 858 to 895 pounds brought $142.50 to $155.25. Medium and Large 1 feeder heifers 609 to 644
pounds brought $142.75 to $153.50 and feeder heifers 724 to 742 pounds brought
$138 to $145.
Cash hogs opened sharply lower with moderate negotiated purchase numbers.
