(Indianapolis) – June 14, 2022 – Registration is now open for the Indiana Agricultural Law Foundation’s (INAgLaw) 2022 Estate & Succession Planning for the Family Farm annual workshop. The program will be held via Zoom and will be free of charge for all attendees. Family farmers and attorneys are encouraged to join on Thursday, July 21, from 9 a.m. to noon Eastern Time.

“It’s essential that families work together to create their succession plans before they’re needed,” said John Shoup, director of INAgLaw. “This three-hour discussion is designed to encourage family members to begin communicating about the future of their farm operation, starting what can be a sensitive conversation for a family.”

The 2022 session topics and speakers include:

  • What’s new in planning to protect your farm from nursing homes and death taxes? Presented by Dan Gordon, partner, Gordon & Associates, P.C.
  • Leveraging Insurance Products in the Succession Plan. Presented by John Selky, Life Market and Product Consultant, Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance.
  • Generational Transfer of Leadership and Ownership. Presented by Davone Cook, partner, K•COE ISOM.

“Long term planning for the family farm often means incorporating the next generation into the operation,” explained Shoup. “This year we will be discussing some of the resources available to help families with that transition and give the next generation a good shot at being competitive.”

The virtual workshop is open to anyone interested in understanding the importance of estate and succession planning to their business. Participants will walk away with valuable tips for getting started. Attendees also will have time to ask questions after each presentation.

Registration for the event is required. Attendees may register at www.infb.org/events or www.INAgLaw.org through Tuesday, July 19. The session has been approved for three CLE credits; attorneys will receive one credit for each presentation.
