Indiana Rural Summit
Partnering for Economic Health & Community Success
The 2011 Indiana Rural Summit will be held December 1 & 2, 2011 at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. The summit will bring together Indiana's rural leaders and citizens to develop creative ways of strengthening and advancing the state's rural communities.
Dr. Rick Foster has been confirmed as a major keynote speaker. Dr. Foster was the Vice President for Programs at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation until accepting an invitation by Michigan State University, in April 2010, to direct MSU Extension's educational efforts in community and economic development, natural resources and stewardship, food systems and resource allocation as it applies to finances, housing and energy.
The Indiana Rural Summit will focus on four main tracks – one of which is geared toward Ag. The main breakout topics during the ag track are:
Thursday Dec 1 – Audience: Entrepreneurs
Breakout Session #1 – Theme: "What to Know to Get Started"
Take that hobby and make it a job.
Breakout Session #2 – Theme: "What to Know to Grow"
Explore key components necessary to operate and grow a successful AG business. Explore not only local/regional markets but consider expanding your niche to a larger national or international market.
Pre-Summit Training- Walk to Manage, Plan to Succeed
You should get your boots dirty managing your farm business. But to plan for the future of your operation you’re better off getting sore fingers from keyboarding and mouse-clicking. This workshop will get you started with simplified business planning that gets you on the path to success.
The session is funded through a USDA Risk Management Agency grant to The Wallace Center at Winrock International and is sponsored by Farm Credit Services of Mid-America. This program will be provided free of charge to young and beginning age farmers. Those wishing to attend the rest of the Summit can sign up here to receive a free paid registration.
