Those Amazing Kernels of Corn

Indiana Farm Bureau Inc. is pleased to announce our latest video, Those Amazing Kernels of Corn. It's an 8 1/2-minute VHS video, designed to teach children from kindergarten through grade 5 the many uses for corn.

Did you know that one bushel of corn can be made into 32 pounds of starch, 33 pounds of corn sweetener, or 2 1/2 gallons of ethanol? Did you know that ethanol is made from corn and when it's mixed with fossil fuels it produces gasoline that reduces air pollution?

Two young co-stars visit grain farmer Tim Hoover in Tipton County, who describes the planting and harvesting processes. Students learn that corn is used to make biodegradable plastics, sweetener, chewing gum, baby food and much more.

Those Amazing Kernels of Corn is a result of a grant from Tipton County Farm Bureau. The video was made as part of the Indiana Farm Bureau Indiana Women's Leadership Committee's popular “Ag in the Classroom” program.

Those Amazing Kernels of Corn video includes:
   • 8 1/2-minute VHS video tape
   • Teacher's background information
   • The video includes 32 activity pages, spanning K-5th grade level, including sequencing, addition, dot-to-dot, word search, crossword puzzles and creative writing experiences.

All materials are included in a case for easy storage and reference in the classroom or school media center. Worksheets are designed to be copied.
