Statement from Indiana Farm Bureau on the House and
Senate ag committees’ adoption of farm bill language:
Indiana Farm Bureau is pleased that the House Agriculture Committee followed the lead of the Senate Agriculture Committee and approved its version of the 2013 farm bill last night.
We are optimistic that these positive developments will lead to the passage of a long-term farm bill yet this year. The non-partisan,balanced approach to budget reduction is to be commended. Knowing what kind of safety-net there will be in 2014 provides market certainty for agriculture and is important for all sectors of the economy.
In both cases the proposed legislation provides Indiana farmers what they need most: risk management tools that are built around crop insurance. Indiana Farm Bureau especially thanks Sen. Joe Donnelly for his work on the Senate Agriculture Committee in moving its version of a five-year farm bill forward.
Indiana Farm Bureau looks forward to working with the entire Indiana congressional delegation as we continue the debate on this important piece of legislation that impacts all Hoosiers.
