Community planning workshops scheduled
Two workshops are available for citizen planners or anyone interested in community planning and land use.
Nitty Gritty I: The Nitty Gritty Work of Plan Commissions†will take place on Wednesday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. local time. Nitty Gritty II: Getting Good Planning in Your Community†will take place on July 14 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. local time. Both workshops take place at the Indiana Farm Bureau building in downtown Indianapolis.
Nitty Gritty II was offered in 2010; the original Nitty Gritty program (now Nitty Gritty I) was offered annually from 2000 to 2009.
Nitty Gritty I will focus on identifying good growth, getting elected officials and citizens involved, retooling comprehensive plans, updating ordinances and other topics related to planning. The workshop is intended for elected officials, plan commissioners and zoning board members, but it is open to anyone interested in the planning process. Nitty Gritty II will include a brief review of Nitty Gritty I material, but will offer a more in-depth look at proven concepts that good planning projects share.
Attendance at the Nitty Gritty I workshop is not required to attend Nitty Gritty II.
