Farm Bureau attorney elected to national board

Indiana Farm Bureau staff attorney Justin Schneider has been elected to the board of directors of the American Agricultural Law Association, a national professional organization that focuses on the legal needs of the agricultural community. His extensive work in Indiana’s agricultural regulatory environment makes Schneider a perfect fit for the AALA board.

“We in Indiana are well aware of the experience and expertise that Justin brings to discussions about farm regulations and the rulemaking process,” acknowledged IFB president Don Villwock, an Edwardsport, Ind., grain farmer. “Now he’ll be able to make a difference on the national scene, and all of agriculture will benefit from his in-depth knowledge of ag’s unique legal and regulatory challenges.”

The AALA offers an independent, nonpartisan forum for investigation of innovative and workable solutions to complex agricultural law problems. This role has taken on greater importance in the midst of current international and environmental issues that are reshaping agriculture, and the impending technological advances which promise equally dramatic changes in the future.

“It’s gratifying to know that my colleagues in ag law were confident enough in my abilities to cast a vote for me,” said Schneider, referring to the September board election. “I look forward to working with the AALA to further the understanding of important issues that directly impact how farmers grow food and ultimately the people who eat it.”

Indiana Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm advocacy organization.  Schneider, who earned a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness management from Purdue and a JD from Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law, has been with Farm Bureau since 2005. In his role as staff attorney and lobbyist he is primarily responsible for regulatory affairs with a focus on environmental issues.
